My project

The project was realtively easy and it didn't take very long to make a good web page.

My paper is on the amish lifestyle. I have called a friend to do an interview over the phone. I know that, that's not the best way to do an interview but he lives in Lancaster County. I asked about what language he spoke growing up and I was surprised that he knew how to speak Dutch. I just never heard him speak it. I asked what he did when he was sixteen and I asked some other relevant questions relating to the amish lifestyle.

Cancer, where's it come from? How does it form in the human body? I heard that it partly has to do with cells growing out of control. Is that true and why does that happen? How far along is the cancer research? Are scientists predicting when there will be a cure? One question that I know is difficult to answer but I have to ask why does this happen to the good guys?

Why?

While researching this deadly monster, I hope to find why it kills so many and why there is yet to be a cure. I want to know what causes it? I want to know why sometimes cancer is caught early and why sometimes it is caught too late? I want to know why the good guys die young?

Now onto another subject. Sometime before I earn a degree in teaching I will figure out why people drink and drive. Why do people like to drink so much that they can't hardly stand let alone control an automobile? What causes the mind to wonder from a normal state of thinking to an abnormal boundary after one too many. What's in the alcohol that can leave such devastating effects? How many drinks would it take for an average size person, male or female,to lose control of an automobile and seriously injure someone else? These are the questions that very few people think about before having a few drinks and I want to know why?

How do people become attached to nicotine? What's in it that makes it so desireable? Cigaretts leave bad breath, yellow teath, and can cause a numer of health problems. What makes it so irresistable? If people start smoking at a young age they usually don't stop or if they do it's usually not until much later. Why?

I mentioned last week that a friend of mine had passed away from cancer. He was in his late thirties, unwed, but a very nice man. One day, he became short of breath so he went to see the doctor; and from the doctor he ended up admitted to the hospital. I saw him the day that he was released from Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pa and for a man who always had a smile on his face, he looked whiter than a ghost. His face was so pale and he looked like he was fighting a war that he knew he wasn't going to win.

Research

I have done a lot of research in high school and even in votech for my senior project but let me tell you about myself first. I'm from Lancaster county, Pa which is between six and seven hours away. Although, I enjoy the campus' resources such as the library and the food court, I miss my home town. I have many friends and a large family back in Lancaster. Yes, we have the horse and buggy's but no I'm not amish. I work with several amish and mennonite men and women though, as an E.M.T/Firefighter with the West Earl Volunteer Fire Company. Recently, I had the misfortune of hearing that one of our members from the fire department had passed away from cancer. As I said before, I enjoy the campus' resources but I wish I was closer to home. My question is that why do good people die young?
